Every year at Voisins Department Store we ask our customers to help us support 4 local charities to become the benefactors from the monies raised in store through Pennies.

Pennies is one of the fastest growing fintech charities in the UK. Our customers have the option to donate money when making purchases in store.

From May 2021 – April 2022 our customers helped to support the 4 chosen charities; Beresford Kitchen, Women’s Refuge, Jersey Hospice and JSPCA.

Since launching Pennies in 2016, together with our generous customers, we’ve raised a total of £59,000.00

So, what’s next? Vote for our shortlist of May 2022-23 charities.

JSPCA ANIMAL SHELTER

The JSPCA Animals’ Shelter is one of Jersey’s oldest charities that has provided a service to the local community for over 150 years. Our mission is to ‘prevent cruelty, promote knowledge, and provide for the aged, sick, lost and unwanted animals in Jersey. We have a dedicated team of professionals who provide care and love to domestic animals in need, along with rescuing and rehabilitating local wildlife.

JERSEY HOSPICE CARE

Jersey Hospice Care was created by the community, for the community. And it continues to be supported by the community today in order to ensure that everyone living with dying receives the specialist care and support they need.

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

Macmillan Jersey provide emotional, practical and wellbeing services for anyone in Jersey affected by cancer. With roughly 3000 support sessions provided each year, our team of professionals and wonderful volunteers are here for you, to support you through.

DEMENTIA JERSEY

We’re a local charity committed to supporting people with dementia and the family and friends caring for them. There are around 1,600 people living with dementia in Jersey, and with an ageing population, this number is expected to double within a generation. We provide emotional support including counselling and expert dementia advice, a range of therapeutic activities, social groups for people with dementia and carers and educational programmes for the local community. Our aim is to help make Jersey a truly dementia friendly island and ensure that people affected by dementia continue to have the support they need.

BREAST CANCER SUPPORT JERSEY

To provide emotional, practical and financial support to Islanders undergoing breast cancer treatment. To raise awareness of breast cancers signs and symptoms, encouraging Islanders to #touchlookcheck and take early medical advice.

JERSEY WOMEN'S REFUGE

Jersey Women's Refuge exists to protect and empower women and children affected by domestic abuse and seeks to eliminate domestic violence through education and awareness. Domestic violence is the result of an abuse of power and control. It does not discriminate, has long lasting consequences and takes on many forms including physical, emotional, psychological, financial and sexual abuse.

JERSEY ACTION AGAINST RAPE

JAAR is an independent and confidential service helping people to recover from the trauma of sexual violence.
They have a dedicated helpline, website and on site counselling with access to qualified and specially trained counsellors and psychotherapists.

TEENAGE CANCER TRUST JERSEY

Nationally 1 in 2 of us are now likely to receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetimes. Being diagnosed at such a young age can throw lives off track more than at any other time and can feel particularly unjust. We make sure young people in Jersey don’t face cancer alone. We do it by providing funds which enable world-class cancer care and support in our specialist unit at Southampton Hospital and in the Jersey Hospital.

BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION

The Jersey Beekeepers’ Association was formed in 1917 and is still buzzing after over 100 years! We are very excited with our latest project to develop a Beekeeping HQ at our bee field in Grouville. Ponds have been dug, an orchard planted, a beekeepers garden designed and a hive viewing shed built. Still lots to do though! As a charity one of our core aims is education, both for our members and the public. We are mid way through an introduction to beekeeping course and are planning to attend several public shows & fairs this year.

JERSEY CHILD CARE TRUST

The Jersey Child Care Trust is a local charity making a big difference for children living with disabilities and/or adversity. By putting families first, they deliver a variety of programmes to enable all our children to have the best start.

JERSEY TREES FOR LIFE

Jersey Trees for Life is the only charity entirely devoted to protecting the Island's trees and woodlands. Their work includes woodland restoration and the planting of many thousands of trees each year in woods, copses and hedgerows. Trees for Life have created several new community woodlands and often work closely with other conservation groups to aid the survival of threatened local species.

NSPCC

The NSPCC has been preventing cruelty to children since 1884 and it has been in Jersey since 1999, working with supporters to keep children safe and give each child the future they deserve. With the physical and mental wellbeing of children at the heart of what we do, it is our aim that every child in Jersey can grow up happy and healthy. The Gower Centre in St Helier is where our practitioners deliver lifechanging services for children, young people, and families whether that’s helping them deal with the extra stresses of parenthood, or to move on from the trauma of abuse.

BERESFORD STREET KITCHEN

Beresford Street Kitchen is a social enterprise and charity providing training and employment for people with learning disabilities and autism. They have a busy cafe in St Helier, a new tea rooms at La Hougue Bie as well as a catering workshop and print shop. Each area offers different skills to the crew.
